Here, youāll find the steps (and stumbles) of designing Sunday Cottage Escape, with inspiration, updates, and little glimpses into the heart behind it all.
Iām sharing my real-time journey of creating Sunday Cottage Escape, so one day, you can escape here too. šø
The plan Iāve laid out is for a small community gathering of 12 tiny cottages ā fully furnished and ready for someone to simply arrive and enjoy.
As Iāve mentioned before⦠I live this vision out in my head every single day. Each cottage consists of one or two bedrooms with cozy, comfortable beds; a tiny kitchen equipped with a fridge, stove, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, dinnerware, and basic cooking pans; a nice-sized bathroom; and a relaxing living space. All the essentials someone would need to unwind, recharge, and just be.
This idea came to me from a peaceful experience I had in Sedona, Arizona. I used to take my mother there twice a year for five years in a row. We stayed at a small inn with tiny cabins ā and every stay was filled with peace, simplicity, and bonding. After a day of exploring, weād grill two steaks and play Yahtzee by the fire. Those were such good times.
After a two-year break, we finally made it back ā only to discover the owner had sold the inn and was no longer there. Jeff, the original owner, was warm, friendly, and intentional. His thoughtful touches made the place unforgettable.
There was no WiFi, no cell signal, and no TVs ā and yet, it had everything. A community library room with puzzles, games, and comfy couches⦠a phone booth with a real landline⦠and a tiny store filled with homemade baked goods, groceries, toiletries, souvenirs, and more.
Each cabin even had a little guestbook, where visitors shared stories about their stay. I loved that. It made the space feel so personal ā so human.
As my Sunday Cottage Escape vision grew, I started weaving in the magic from those Sedona memories, then evolving the ideas into something even more personal. I envision a central communal area with cozy seating and shared grills ā surrounded by the cottages, so no one has to walk far to gather. Itāll be green, shaded, well-lit, and inviting.
Iāll also have a private garden walkway for guests ā filled with water features, bird feeders, colorful flowers, seating nooks, and twinkling fairy lights at night. Painted rocks, quirky gnomes, fairy houses, and even a small dog park will add to the charm.
Yes ā a dog park! š¾ Four cottages will be pet-friendly. As a proud Chihuahua momma of six, I could never leave this out. At first, only small dogs will be allowed, just so I can get a feel for how it all works. Each pet-friendly cottage will have parking posts, potty supply stands, and welcome baskets of dog treats waiting inside.
This past spring (2025), I experienced heartbreaking loss ā I said goodbye to two of my six Chihuahuas, Ginger and Lola, just one month apart. To honor them, two of the pet-friendly cottages will carry their names. A little way to keep their memory close in a place so special to my heart.
Iād love to hear your thoughts or suggestions ā feel free to drop them in the comments.
Be the first to see new updates, dreamy ideas, sketches, photos, and behind-the-scenes magic as this peaceful getaway takes shape.
Youāll get cozy updates (not spammy stuff), and one day, youāll be the first to know when booking opens. šø
