Here, youāll find the steps (and stumbles) of designing Sunday Cottage Escape, with inspiration, updates, and little glimpses into the heart behind it all.
Iām sharing my real-time journey of creating Sunday Cottage Escape, so one day, you can escape here too. šø
Is It Really Possible to Build the Life Youāve Been Dreaming About?
Iāve had this obsession with tiny houses šø for as long as I can remember. Theyāre cute, cozy, and manageable for just one person. Iāve seen some as small as 200 square feet and others as big as 2,000ābut for me, the perfect space is somewhere between 900 and 1,000 square feet.
I can get completely lost in a single image on Pinterest.š Iāll sit and stare at a cottage-style house with pastel tones and soft finishes and instantly see the whole place set up in my headādecorated, warm, and full of that calm, tranquil vibe I crave.
At 55, Iāve never owned my own home. Thatās been hard to sit with sometimes. Iāve always dreamed of a space to call my own, somewhere to host friends and family, share laughter, and just be. Iāve worked hard all my life trying to make that happen, but it never quite came together.
Iāve always been independent. I donāt like relying on anyone else for my needs. Iāve been the one people came to for help, and it never bothered meāuntil I started looking back and wondering: āWho was there for me?ā Truth is, a lot of people took advantage of my kindness. I didnāt notice it then, because I wasnāt expecting anything in return. But now I see it for what it was. And itās made me more intentional with my time, my energy, and my dreams.
So here I amāwith this long-standing vision that Iāve lived out in my head for years. I donāt just want to live in a tiny home⦠I want to share that experience. š I want to create a spaceāa little retreat, a small communityāwhere people can come to unwind, feel safe, and soak in peace and simplicity. I still want to give, just in a different way now. A way that also gives something back to me.
Everyone has emotions, feelings, dreams. Mine are tied up in this vision and my four chihuahuasāmy little support team. Iāve never been married, never had children. I always felt like if I couldnāt fully take care of my own struggles, how could I ask someone else to carry them with me? So my pups became my comfort, my constant, my family.
I started this post with a question:
Is it really possible to build something thatās lived in your mind for so long?
And my answer?
Why not.
Iām 55, and Iāve never really done anything just for me. Why not now? Who says itās too late? What do I have to proveāand to who?
I spent years burning out in retail, giving everything I had to a company that couldnāt even approve one simple request: time off to spend with my grandmother for what would be her last Thanksgiving. She passed five months later. š„ŗ That moment stayed with me. It was the tipping point for me realizing I wanted a life that I owned, not one that owned me.šŖ
šø Sunday Cottage Escape is more than a name. Itās a feeling. Itās a reminder that something good still exists in the world. That we can create pockets of peace in the middle of the noise. That even if weāve been knocked down, weāre allowed to dream again.
This is my dream. And now, Iām finally building it.
Be the first to see new updates, dreamy ideas, sketches, photos, and behind-the-scenes magic as this peaceful getaway takes shape.
Youāll get cozy updates (not spammy stuff), and one day, youāll be the first to know when booking opens. šø
