The Little Things That Make a Getaway Special

August 25, 20252 min read

What kind of cottage would you like to stay in for 1, 2, 3, or maybe 5 nights?
What does comfort look like for you? What little touches would make you feel welcome?

These are things I think about all the time — wondering what would make someone happy and truly at ease. I think back to what made me happy during those peaceful escapes to Sedona with my mom.

A photo collage of peaceful Sedona getaways — cozy cabins, nature walks, colorful landscapes, and special mother-daughter moments. These cherished trips inspired the vision for Sunday Cottage Escape, a place to rest, recharge, and reconnect.

Every trip gave us the freedom to:

✔ Do what we wanted
✔ Eat what we wanted
✔ Sleep as long as we want
✔ Stay in our pajamas all day
✔ Stay up late, or go to bed early
✔ Wander the woods or do nothing at all
✔ Drink wine coolers
✔ Take long baths
✔ Skip makeup
✔ Shop the local stores
✔ Cook or order takeout
✔ Lounge on the couch or in bed
✔ Read all day
Or just breathe and be still

These are the memories that shaped Sunday Cottage Escape.

We’d pack our bags, drive the 3 hours to Sedona, and stop by a local shop to grab what we needed: steaks, fresh veggies, a few potatoes to bake, wine coolers, and snacks. The cabins had everything — dinnerware, cookware, dish soap, a sponge, even a propane grill outside with utensils ready to go. Some had picnic tables or outdoor lounge chairs. It was simple, but it was everything.

At Sunday Cottage Escape, I want to bring that same feeling — but with our own unique touches.

🪴 Each cottage will have a different layout and theme
🐾 Four will be pet-friendly
💑 One will be a honeymoon/
lovers' cottage
🏡 The rest will each offer something special and memorable
🍳 All will have a small but fully functional kitchen
🧺 No laundry in the cottages, but a dedicated Laundry House for guest use

Inside the Laundry House, guests will find:

  • Vending machines stocked with snacks and essentials (think toothbrushes, feminine care, allergy meds, etc.)

  • Drinks, souvenirs, and emergency items you may have forgotten

  • A cozy, welcoming place to regroup during your stay

There’s one more thing I’ve been thinking about… and I’m still unsure about it.

At the Sedona Inn we stayed at, every morning around 6 am, the staff delivered a picnic basket breakfast to a shelf outside each cabin. It was packed with love — mason jars filled with yogurt, oats, cereal, fruit, fresh pastries, juice — just enough for each person. The experience felt personal and thoughtful, like a gentle hug to start the day.

They even had a tiny store where you could buy a fresh sandwich, more baked goods, or even fishing poles and frozen meals. It was charming and practical.

As sweet as that memory is, I’m not sure if it fits into what I want Sunday Cottage Escape to be. I think our uniqueness will shine in a different way — one that feels just as thoughtful, but uniquely ours.
