Starting the Journey: How I’m Building Sunday Cottage Escape

August 30, 20253 min read

The last couple of days, I’ve been doing a ton of research—research that can help me put together a business plan so I can move forward with looking for investors, securing a business loan, and more.

Ideas are starting to flow into my head faster than I know what to do with them. About all I can do is write things down so they don’t get lost in the process. As you know, this blog is about keeping you posted on the journey, goals, and plans I have for Sunday Cottage Escape as it evolves. This post is one of those new steps.

I’ve started taking courses with the SBA (U.S. Small Business Administration). These will help me learn how to develop a business plan, conduct marketing research, secure funding, and manage daily operations. For the last three years, I’ve been expanding my education in so many different ways. Learning how to do new things on a regular basis is so powerful. Before Sunday Cottage Escape even started coming together, I learned skills that are helping me now as I work to make my dreams come true.

As you’ve probably figured out… I haven’t had any experience with this type of business or even with blogging. This is me figuring it out as I go and trying to create something amazing—bringing my vision, my dream, to life.

I’ve always wanted more than the mundane everyday life—the routine of 9–5 and the hours spent working for something that really isn’t mine. Maybe it’s because I’m older now and can look back at how basic my life has been. All I really got out of working 30+ years in retail was a sore back, bad knees, aching ankles—and not much more to show for it. I want more out of life!

I’m not married, I don’t have kids, but I do have four chihuahuas. I live with my folks and help care for them, in the same house I’ve lived in since I was four years old. My small hometown has grown tremendously over the years, but I’ve stayed rooted here. What I want now is to create something I can give back to others—something I can call my own. To shape it the way I envision, to operate it the way I want to… because it’s mine. I want people to enjoy it and create amazing memories here. That’s what drives me.

Even after just a little time in these SBA courses, I already feel empowered about how I want to move forward. I hope and pray that soon I’ll be able to start putting bigger plans into motion.

There is nothing like Sunday Cottage Escape in my area, and I’m excited by the thought of bringing something like this to our city. A place where locals and travelers can rent a tiny home and break away from the fast-paced, pressure-filled lifestyle we all face. A place to unwind and recharge in a welcoming, tranquil, tiny community. This is something that should have existed already, and I’m thrilled at the thought of being the first to offer it. Sunday Cottage Escape will be an experience like no other.

Of course, I’m nervous about it all. This is an entirely new venture for me—uncharted waters. For a while, I was moving too fast, jotting down notes that were getting ahead of myself. I had to remind myself to slow down and take it one step at a time. First, I need to educate myself on the business side of things—the process of finding a location, calculating costs, deciding on the cottages, and most importantly, securing funding to make it all happen.

These things will take time. But I’m so glad you’re here for the ride, joining me on this exciting yet challenging journey.
